Wine of the week 23.02.17


This In Situ Reserva Carmenère may just be my new favourite wine. It’s not heavy but it’s got a lovely plumy flavour to it and finishes with a bit of spice.  This isn’t a wine you’ll come across just anywhere but it’s worth the effort to chase down a bottle and give it a try.   You won’t regret it.   It’s quite reasonably priced for a wine of this quality as well.

You may not have heard of the Carmenère grape before.  It’s an old Bordeaux variety that disappeared from France due to disease and was thought extinct until it was rediscovered in Chile which is where it is mostly cultivated now.  This is my first experience with it and I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more wines made from this grape.
